Volunteer Expectations

Be punctual and responsible in completing your commitment of time and task to the service provider or community.

Be mindful that you serve as ambassador of goodwill and are representing the University, your organization and yourself.
Be knowledgeable that a liability waiver is to be initialed by all helpers the day of the event.
A first aid kit, cellular phone, and list of emergency numbers are always available during events. If volunteers have any physical conditions that staff should know about, i.e., diabetic, asthma, heart condition, injuries, please let the staff know.  Confidence will be maintained. Talk to your site leader or another appropriate staff member if you experience any problem or may become aware of safety risks at the service site.
Be aware of the following questions & answers:

Is skill required?
Really, the only special skill needed is to understand basic safety measures and if you aren't sure how to do something, ask for help! If a skill is needed, volunteers must self identify their proficiency of skill.

What about travel?
Volunteers will be responsible for their own transportation to events. (Unless otherwise noted)
Directions will be provided.
If transportation or special accommodations are needed, let us know 48 hours prior to the event and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Do we need any tools?
Each event will be different, with different tasks and supplies. You may be asked to supply a rake, shovel or miscellaneous tools. Student Activities has a limited supply of tools and cannot always accommodate larger groups.
Student Activities will supply trash bags and rubber gloves.

What should I wear?
Wear the right shoes. No flip flops,Keen’s, Chaco’s or Teva’s or sandals.  Please wear closed toe & heel shoes to all service events.
Garments must not expose undergarments or be otherwise immodest. Going shirtless, having a bare midriff or bare back is prohibited. Garments must be of appropriate length, cut and/or fit to meet the requirement of sitting and/or bending.
Please note that some service locations are considered professional worksites and may have dress code regulations.
Most events will take place outdoors, so plan for the weather. It is recommended to dress in layers and bring sunscreen, bug spray, hat, rain coat, long pants, etc.

What should I bring?
Please bring a full water bottle and food/drink as needed
