The Service Saturday Program is a social, flexible, and rewarding way to make a positive concrete difference in our community and on campus without long-term or individual volunteering. With 2 - 4 hour volunteering increments and a range of different opportunities offered one Saturday each month, there is something for everyone to get involved, have some fun, meet other students from Tech, and of course, help our community! More details will be posted as the event draws near. Please note events are subject to change due to weather and availability of service projects. Please remember that you are responsible for your own transportation to these events.

September 26th - Parks & Recreation

Did you know Houghton has 7 parks, a waterfront trail and the NARA Trail System!
Volunteers maintained a few parks on the morning of 9/26/09, but the weather was not cooperating for a prolific service event. Remaining parks were serviced on Make A Difference Day on 10/24/09.

  • Woodhaven Park (behind Shopko)
  • West Houghton Park (Edwards St)
  • Bridge St. Basketball Court
  • Garnet St. Tennis court and play area
  • Kestner Park (Chutes and Ladders)
  • East Houghton Park (down by the Super 8 motel)
  • The College Ave. Pocket Park

Special thanks to Scott MacInnes, City Manger & Mark Zenner, Director of Public Works

October 17th - Alberta Restoration

Two Tech vans full of students made the trip to the Ford Center for wood splitting and brush clearing. The goal of the day was to restore the mill backdrop to its historical state. (see photo).
A small group returned to the Ford Center Make A Difference Day, 10/24/09 to split enough wood to last the winter months.
Special thanks to Kari Price, Manager/Director & Dave Stimac, Maintenance Foreman
