Dear Parents and Families,

I am pleased your son or daughter has decided to attend Michigan Tech, and am excited for the journey that awaits them as a college student. One of the most meaningful aspects of the college experience is involvement outside of the classroom in campus organizations, and one of the most complete ways in which a student may become involved is through membership in a fraternity or sorority.

The first fraternity chapter was established at Michigan Tech in 1892. Since then, Michigan Tech’s fraternity and sorority system has grown to include 13 fraternities and 8 sororities. While each of our groups were founded upon different principles, each group supports our community’s core values of leadership development, scholarship and scholastic achievement, meaningful community service, and life-long fraternal friendships. The fraternity and sorority experience has a history of providing students with meaningful experiences that they will take with them post graduation, including a wide variety of leadership roles both within the chapter and in the greater Greek community.

At Michigan Tech, our role is to provide both the challenge and support necessary to aid our students in understanding the founding principles and values of their Greek organizations and incorporating those values into their daily lives as students, as family members, and as citizens in their communities. As a parent, the role you play in your student’s college experience is significant and impactful. I encourage you to engage your student in conversations about the fraternity/sorority experience and its potential impact on their success here at Michigan Tech.

Best of luck - I hope we can be partners in creating a successful university experience for your student!
