Personal Flotation Devices (PFD) and paddles will be provided.

CBJ.2. The other fifty percent of points awarded for the Cardboard Boat Race will be based on the decoration of the boat, which should support Michigan Tech Athletics.

CBG.2. All team members who start the race must finish the race without leaving the interior of the boat in order to complete it. If a team member exits the boat for any reason during the race, the team must restart the race.

For environmental purposes, no oil based paints allowed.
CBG.7. All team members must take a PBT and blow 0.00 in order to participate in the race and must stay in the “participants area”, only.
CBG.8. Spectators or organization members who are not participating in the Cardboard Boat Races must stay in the designated spectators area.

Registration
Visit www.homecoming.mtu.edu by 4pm on Monday, September 24 through Friday, September 28 at 4pm to register your team.
If an organization does not register during this period, they will not be able to participate.
Player/Game Schedules
1. Teams are allowed a maximum of 10 players on the field at a time, minimum of 5.
2. If your team doesn’t have at the required amount of players, you can still participate. The Homecoming Committee wants you to understand that you will play with less players, regardless of how many the other team has.
3. Each team must have the minimum number of players at the playing site no later than 5 minutes before the scheduled time of the game or a forfeit will result.
Toss of the Coin
1. A coin toss determines the first possession.
2. The team that wins the toss may choose to receive, or to “throw-off” (instead of kicking it.)
3. A referee or field supervisor will throw the ball to the receiving team.
Field
1. The field will be on Walker Lawn and will not be regulation size.
Timing/Overtime
1. Games will consist of two eight minute halves.
2. The clock will remain running with no stopping for whistles or penalties.
3. Games cannot end on a defensive penalty, unless the offense declines it.
4. If the score is tied at the end of regulation of any game besides the finals, teams move directly into a “throw off,” which will decide the winner.
5. In the finals, if the score is tied at the end of regulation, teams move directly into overtime. A coin toss determines the first possession. The first team to score in overtime wins. However, overtime will have a maximum time limit of eight minutes. If the score is still tied at the end of ten minutes, then a “throw off” will decide the winner (the determining factor is where the ball lands not where it rolls to).
Scoring
1. Touchdown= 6 points
2. Extra point= 1 point (passed/ran in from 10-yd line)
Offense
1. The offense must have a minimum of two women on the line of scrimmage. The offense has four downs to advance the ball up the field to score in the end zone.
2. A player without the ball that steps out of bounds on her own is ineligible to re-enter during that play.
3. The ball carrier must try to elude the tackler rather than creating contact.
4. The quarterback can run with the ball after the count of five “homecoming” by the defensive end.
5. The ball is spotted where the ball carrier’s feet are when the flag is pulled, not where the ball is dropped.
Defense
1. No tackling allowed. Ball carriers are “tackled” when a defensive player pulls the flag.
2. A defensive player may not intentionally hold, block, trip, or push the ball carrier out of bounds to stop the play.
3. Tacklers may not physically stop a runner before the flag is pulled.
4. Normal blocking is acceptable, but excessive/aggressive blocking will not be tolerated.
5. Once the ball has been handed off, all defensive players are eligible to rush.
Kick-off
1. No kick-offs are allowed. If the offense fails to score, the other team takes possession where the opposing team left off.
2. The ball will be placed at the 10-yard line to begin play after the opposing team has scored.
3. No safeties are allowed. If the returning team’s player’s flag is pulled in the end zone, the ball will be placed on the 10-yard line.
4. The team that catches the ball in the air after it has traveled the required 20 yards takes possession. If neither team catches the ball before it hits the ground, then the first team to gain possession is on offense.
5. If the ball is thrown out-of-bounds, the returning team will start from line of scrimmage.
Passing
1. Defensive players must count five “homecoming” at a normal rate before rushing the quarterback.
2. Interceptions change the possession of the ball at the point of the interception.
3. If a player intercepts the ball in the end zone, the player may return it out of the end zone. If the player is deflagged while running in the end zone, it is a touchback.
4. Incomplete passes return to the line of scrimmage.
Receiving
1. All players are eligible to receive passes (including quarterback if the ball has been handed off behind the line of scrimmage.)
2. A player must have at least one foot inbounds when making a reception.
3. For a legal catch, the player must maintain control of the ball before hitting the ground inbounds.
Dead Balls
1. Play is ruled “dead” when:
a. Ball carrier is deflagged
b. Ball carrier steps out of bounds
c. Touchdown is scored
d. A penalty is called (offside penalities will result in a “do over” or “redo,” defensive penalties will be marked at the point of the infraction.)
Sportsmanship
1. Foul play will not be tolerated. Any unsportswoman-like act can include any acts of intentionally tackling, elbowing, cheap shots, fighting, flagrant actions, or any act intending to cause harm or an unfair advantage.
2. Ten-yard penalties will be given to a team engaging in unsportswoman-like conduct.
3. If trash-talking occurs, the referee will give one warning. If it continues, the player(s) will be ejected from the game.
Fighting
1. Any player involved in a fight during the game will be immediately ejected from the game. The individual will be referred to the Director of Student Judicial Affairs.

- All floats are encouraged to have a stated theme in good taste. Remember that our opponent in the Homecoming football game is the Ferris State Bulldogs.
- All vehicles must be in good working order. This includes operational brakes and tires. This is very important with the parade route turning at the Ambassador going down the hill.
- All participants in hobo vehicles must exit the vehicle at the Ambassador, walk down the hill and reload the vehicle once it safely arrives at the bottom of the hill.

- Behavior of all parade participants is expected and required to fall within Michigan State Laws and to be in good taste. Remember that members of the community, from Kindergartners to Senior Citizens, will be watching the parade as we travel through downtown.
- Spectators are prohibited from joining the parade after the float vehicle or constructed float has left the starting area. Violations could result in a one-year suspension from the Homecoming Parade.
