Hall Life

eeting new people definitely isn't a problem at Michigan Tech. Each house on campus is as unique and individual as every person that lives there. You and about 40 housemates may come from different backgrounds, but you'll have many things in common.
You'll transform your house into a home away from home by creating important friendships, continuing traditions, planning house events, and participating in campus activities. You'll meet people, find your way around, and have fun while you contribute to your community.
The experiences you share with your roommates can be some of the most memorable and rewarding times you will have while in college. With just a little effort you can create warm relationships with roommates and housemates that will last for years to come.

nce you arrive on campus you should get to know your resident assistant (RA). Residence Life staff members have been trained to assist you with a variety of issues. Your RA will meet with you and your roommates during the first weeks of school to prepare a roommate agreement. This agreement will help you and your new roommates adjust to living arrangement.
You should not feel compelled to become best friends with your roommates, although quite often that is exactly what happens. There is nothing wrong, however, with just being good, respectful roommates.
Communication with your roommates is important. Learning to communicate effectively with your roommates will allow you to avoid conflicts. Your roommates may have different values, beliefs and customs than you, and by communicating with them you can learn some of the exciting differences and surprising similarities you may have!
