NEED A MENTOR ... BE A MENTOR...
One of the most rewarding experiences you can have is being involved in mentoring...either as a mentor or by being mentored by another.
If you are looking to work with someone about class work or just to talk, you should consider seeking out a mentor. There are many mentoring programs listed below that your peers are a part of and look forward to the opportunity to be a mentor. Mentoring affects all areas of your experience while in college. A mentor also can become a great friend and someone to turn to, for example, go out and enjoy the natural wonders of the Keweenaw or have a cup of coffee downtown while you talk about World Cultures.
For those who become mentors, the sharing of knowledge is an empowering way to give back to the Michigan Tech community. Helping others learn about classes, concepts, ways to get involved and to adjust to college, are just afew of the things a mentor can give to another. Remember what Marion Wright Edelman said, "you really can change the world if you care enough."
Michigan Tech offers the following mentoring opportunities:
• Champs Life Skills Program
• ExSEL (Excelling in Science & Engineering Learning)
• Guide (Graduate and Undergraduate Intiative for Development and Enhancement)
• Learning Communities
• Master-Student Athlete Course
• Mentor Network
• MentorNet
• MSE Mentoring
• ME-EM Student Success Center
• Tutoring With Student Athletes
Please select one that interest you and learn how you can get involved in mentorship at Michigan Tech!
How lovely to think that no one need wait a moment, we can start now, start slowly changing the world. How lovely that everyone, great and small, can make their contribution...how we can always, always give something, even if it is only kindness" - Anne Frank
