Our guiding principles

The success of Michigan Tech students is the most important measure of our progress. Given this, we are committed to:

Our learning outcomes

In this ever-changing technological world, we will use our mission, vision, and guiding principles to provide a supportive and safe community at Michigan Tech. Students engaged in programs, initiatives, and experiences offered by Student Affairs will:

  • Be civically engaged leaders in their many communities and will develop a commitment to service.
  • Learn the skills necessary to work effectively and respectfully in groups.,
  • Understand the importance of trust, ethics, accountability and personal responsibility.
  • Demonstrate a sense of pride, spirit and affinity for Michigan Tech.
  • Identify and understand the need for a sustainable lifestyle.
  • Develop the skills necessary to live in a diverse and ever-changing world.
  • Be able to affect the change they wish to see in the world.

Our priorities for 2008-09

Given our mission, vision, guiding principles and strategic plan goals we will focus our efforts over the course of the next year on the following:

  1. Reaffirming and living the mission of Student Affairs
  2. Beginning the implementation of our learning outcomes with a focus on learning outcome #3- Understand the importance of trust, ethics, accountability and personal responsibility
  3. Hiring new and diverse staff
  4. Gaining approval to build new and renovate existing housing facilities
  5. Designing and revamping our current website and increasing our web presence
  6. Reevaluating and refining our performance review plan
  7. Examining how we communicate with students and embracing a new/robust plan to enhance our effectiveness and strengthen our messaging
  8. Developing a comprehensive wellness plan for students
  9. Embrace and support the Experience Tech fee and its activities
  10. Exploring further opportunities for synergy and collaboration with others
  11. Adopt and incorporate sustainability efforts into our work
  12. Collaborate with AIS & tech support to ensure projects are accomplished in a timely manner
  13. Increase staff visibility at regional and national level - bringing distinction to Tech
